(established 2003) (co-founding member of leadership team) is an open community of cross-project experts and developers that contribute to the open-source Kepler Scientific Workflow System.
funded by NSF DBI-1062565 (PI) (2011-2014), is a research and development project to create a Kepler Scientific Workflow System module that facilitates the development of Kepler workflows for integrated execution of bioinformatics applications in distributed environments.
funded by NSF OCE-0941692 (Co-PI) (2009-2013), is a research project for distributed ocean monitoring via integrated data analysis of coordinated buoyancy drogues.
funded by NSF 1331615 (PI) (2013-2016), is a research project to build a scalable data-driven monitoring, dynamic prediction and resilience cyberinfrastructure for wildfires.
- Community Cyberinfrastructure for Advanced Marine Microbial Ecology Research and Analysis (CAMERA) project:
funded by Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation (member of leadership team) (2008-2013), serves the needs of the microbial ecology research community, and other scientists using metagenomics data, by creating a rich, distinctive data repository and a bioinformatics tools resource that will address many of the unique challenges of metagenomic analysis.
- The Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) Cyberinfrastructure (CI) project:
funded by NSF (system designer for analysis and synthesis) (2008-2012), is building the most ambitious ocean observatory to date. It will span both coasts of the United States, include global ocean installations, and will instrument the seafloor along the Juan de Fuca plate. An integrating cyberinfrastructure will bind the system together, and allow us to interact with the observatory from our homes, labs and schools. The data from the observatory will be available for analyses and modeling in near real-time, and the knowledge developed through these analyses will, in turn, be used to modify observatory operations in situ—for example, by adjusting the navigation of an autonomous underwater vehicle.
- Scientific Data Management (SDM) Center:
funded by DOE SciDAC (Co-PI) (2001-2011), is an assembled team of experts who work in the scientific data management domain with application scientists in areas critical to the DOE mission. The Scientific Process Automation (SPA) thrust area of SDM Center brings together universities and DOE labs from across the country with a common goal of creating a Scientific Problem Solving Environment (PSE) with an intuitive graphical user interface that allows scientists to easily create exploratory dataflows (workflows).
- Realtime Environment for Analytical Processing (REAP):
funded by NSF EF-0619060 (Co-PI) (2006-2011), is a cyberinfrastructure development project, focused on creating technology in which scientific workflows tools can be used to access, monitor, analyze and present information from field-deployed sensor networks, for both the oceanic and terrestrial environments, and across multiple spatiotemporal scales.
funded by NSF OCI-0722079 (Co-PI) (2007-2011), is an NSF-funded effort to coordinate development of Kepler and to enhance the attributes and functions of the system most important for broad adoption and long-term sustainability. The primary goal is to serve the broadest set of science communities possible by making the system more comprehensive, open, reliable and extensible.
- National Laboratory for Advanced Data Research (NLADR):
funded by NSF (Assistant Director) (2005-2008), was a collaborative research and development activity between NCSA and SDSC in advanced data technologies.
- RESearch sURGe ENabled by CyberinfrastructurE (Resurgence):
was a collaborative project to provide a general workflow infrastructure for computational chemistry that allows high-throughput calculations distributed on a computational grid.
- The Laboratory for the Ocean Observatory Knowledge INtegration Grid (LOOKING):
funded by NSF (specialist) (2004-2008), was a research effort into the identification, synthesis, and assemblage of existing and emerging concepts and technologies into a coherent viable cyberinfrastructure design.
